1) System Requirements
===========================================================
IMPORTANT!
The graphics for Triple Play '99 establish a new level of quality previously unseen in
a PC baseball game. To achieve this, we have taken advantage of the power of
the newest high-speed CPUs. We recognize that not everyone has one of these
powerful machines, so we have included numerous graphics detail options, that
allow the game to be enjoyed on slower machines. We strongly recommend that
you experiment with these options to find a display speed that lets you enjoy
the game to its fullest.

2) Installation
===========================================================
To install the Triple Play 99 demo, simply unzip the file into a folder on your hard drive. Triple Play will automatically
create a folder when the file is unzipped, the folder is called Tp99demo.
Once it's unzipped, simply double click on the Tp99demo.exe to run the game.
===========================================================
3) Memory Tips
===========================================================
> MEMORY-RELATED FEATURES
> WINDOWS 95 MEMORY
Triple Play '99 requires 16MB of physical memory, and also requires that virtual
memory be enabled (this can be enabled using "System" in the Windows
Control Panel); we advise that you permit Windows 95 to manage the amount
of virtual memory automatically, and that you have at least 20 MB of free
hard drive space available after installation of the game.
===========================================================
4) Sound System Tips
===========================================================
> WINDOWS 95 SOUND
Make sure you have the correct Windows 95 drivers for your sound card installed.
(Refer to the sound card documentation provided by the manufacturer). Your
sound card and driver must have DirectX support in order for Triple Play æ99 to run
properly. If your sound card does not have DirectX support, you may experience
sound delays and audio breakup in the game.
Should you ever replace your existing sound card with a different one, follow the
manufacturer's instructions for installing the new card. Once you've verified that
the sound card works properly under Windows 95 and you've reinstalled DirectX, run the game again and it
should automatically be detected; it should not be necessary to run the installer
again to configure the game for your new sound card.
Note that Slower CD-ROM drives may cause audio to stutter between menu
screens under Windows 95.
Gravis Ultrasound Users:
If you have a GUS Classic audio card and experience problems with video or audio
playback, select the system icon from the Control Panel, select the Device
Manager, then the Sound, Video and Game Controller option, select the Gravis
Ultrasound Classic driver and choose Properties. Select the Ultrasound Setup
tab and try setting the Playback DMA Buffer Size option to at least 4096.
===========================================================
5) Video Tips
===========================================================
> WINDOWS 95 VIDEO PROBLEMS
Choppy or stuttering video or audio problems may be corrected by adjusting the
CD-ROM read-ahead caching. This option is available by right-clicking on your
local drive, selecting Properties, then Performance, File System, CD-ROM and choosing
"Optimize access pattern for quad-speed or higher" from the menu. The " Supplemental
Cache Size" should be set to minimum. Setting this to maximum will not improve
performance in Triple Play æ99, and may actually harm performance by reserving
RAM that would otherwise be available for the game.
> VIDEO PROBLEMS
We have experienced problems with some video cards and having an [Unknown Monitor]
set as your Monitor in Windows 95.
To ensure that Triple Play 99 will display properly on your system,
make sure that the Monitor driver is specified correctly in Windows 95.
===========================================================
6) Game Controller Tips
===========================================================
> Triple Play '99 CONTROLLERS
A Microsoft compatible mouse is required to navigate through the front end
screens and menus of Triple Play æ99.
During gampelay, the keyboard may be used, however for maximum
enjoyment of Triple Play æ99 we recommend using a Gravis PC
Gamepad Pro, a Gravis PC Gamepad or the Gravis GrIP during gameplay.
If the gameplay controller responds erratically during gameplay, you may need to
recalibrate it, or your game port may not be configured correctly. Refer to your
game/sound card documentation for configuration information.
> WINDOWS 95 CONTROLLER CALIBRATION
Windows 95 users that experience calibration or control problems with their
controllers may need to configure them properly using the Windows 95 Joystick
Control Panel. Once you have done this, run the game again.
Go to the Control Panel, click on the system icon, and select the Device Manger
tab. Make sure your gameport joystick driver is listed under Sound, video and
game controllers and is functioning properly.
Calibrate and choose your joystick configuration from the Control Panel, Click on
the Joystick Icon and select your joystick from the list. Press Calibrate and
follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate your joystick.
> GRAVIS GRIP CALIBRATION
Make sure the Gravis GrIP is connect to the joystick port correctly. Make sure
that the switch on the Gravis MultiPort is switched to the left (4 port side), or
right if using a standard joystick. Make sure that the Gravis GrIP drivers are
installed. If they are not, please refer to your GrIP documentation. Make sure
that the Gravis GrIP controls are calibrated under Windows 95 Gravis GrIP
Calibration in Windows 95:
1. Open the Control Panel and double click on the Joystick Icon.
2. Select Joystick 1 (current joystick)
3. Under Joystick Configuration select Gravis GrIP MultiPort, and click
Calibrate
4. Follow the on screen instructions. Then test the joystick by selecting Test.
5. Repeat the above procedures for Joysticks 2,3, and 4 if they are available.
Once these steps have been completed the green light should appear on the left
wing of the Gravis MultiPort.
**NOTE to Gravis GripKey2 Users**
- Do not run the Gripkey 2 Program while simultaneously running Triple Play æ99.
Doing so may cause in game graphic corruption.
- It is also recommended that you disable keyboard emulation in the Grip Control
Center.
> GRAVIS GAMEPAD AND 4 BUTTON CONTROLLER USERS
Although Triple Play '99 supports 4 buttons when using a single controller, you are
limited to 2 button support when using two gamepads (or other 4 button
controllers) simultaneously. This is a limitation of the PC gameport. The PC
gameport only supports a total of 4 buttons and two D-Pads, so that when
using two controllers, each controller uses 2 of the buttons.
===========================================================
7) Gameplay Performance Tips
===========================================================
If gameplay is not as smooth or responsive as desired, there are several things
that can be done to improve performance. In general, your computer's CPU
speed will be the most important measure of performance, but memory
configuration and CDROM configuration can also affect performance. Refer to
Memory Tips and CDROM tips earlier in this document.
> WINDOWS 95 PERFORMANCE
To ensure maximum performance, ensure that no other Windows 95 applications
are running. Look at the Windows Task bar and close any applications that are
currently running.
> Render Options
To improve speed and responsiveness in gameplay, you can
use the "Render Options", accessible from the in game Pause menu to toggle various
options on or off. You can also customize the screen resolution to enhance performance.
Refer to your Triple Play '99 users manual for actual key assignments.
Details that may improve gameplay performance:
- Change video mode to a lower resolution (eg. 320 x 200)
- Switch to lower Player Quality
- Switch to lower Field Quality
- Switch to lower Shadow Quality
Important Notes About Switching Resolutions:
When changing graphics resolutions, if the new resolution chosen does not work correctly
(which can occur due to incompatible drivers, incompatible modes or other reasons),
pressing F9 at any time during gameplay will restore the game to the default resolution
of 640x480.
If your display becomes garbled after changing your gameplay resolution, your display adapter
refresh rate setting might not be compatible with your monitor. Try setting your Adapter
refresh rate to the DEFAULT setting. You can do this by going into the START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>DISPLAY,
choose the "Settings" tab and click the "Advanced Properties" button. On the next window you
should see a "Refresh Rate" setting. Change it to "Adapter Default".
This game was developed using DirectX 5.0 and should work properly with any graphics cards
with DirectX 5.0 drivers. There is a known bug with the DirectX 5.0 Beta that may cause the game to crash
when checking resolutions. If this happens, please run the game again as it seems to function
properly the second time in most cases.
===========================================================
8) General Gameplay Tip
===========================================================
Triple Play 99 has two difficulty levels, Beginner and Rookie. To change switch between
Beginner and Rookie, in gameplay pause the game (via gamepad or pressing Esc on the keyboard)
and select Options, then Difficulty Settings and at the Difficulty Level setting, toggle to either
Rookie or Beginner.
Selecting Beginner will have an in-game display of what the controller functions are for playing the Home Run Derby.
